Tips & table presence
Small adjustments that make your All Fours decision-making steadier and easier to review.
Opening sequencing
- Lead a short suit to test for voids before committing trump.
- If you accepted trump, keep one low trump to protect your Jack.
- Don’t burn the Ace of a long suit if your partner hasn’t confirmed strength.
Tracking the four points
- Note who played the highest trump in each trick to know where High/Low stand.
- Keep a separate tally for Game so you can pivot if you’re already ahead.
- Declare “Jack live” in your notes whenever you or partner still holds it.
Communication signals
- Low → high leads in a suit can request your partner to return it.
- A quick trump lead signals urgency—usually Hang Jack defense.
- Mirror your partner’s aggression level; conflicting plans waste trump.
Managing trump
- Count down from six—after two rounds you usually know who is void.
- Against aggressive makers, keep one surprise trump to steal the last trick.
- When ahead on points, trade trump for control rather than Hang Jack attempts.
